How To Download Ovi Store Apps To PC

Scenario : You own a Nokia Mobile Phone and want to download its apps for it but are unable to do so as the current GPRS rates are quite high. Also you would like to save the setup files as backup. So what do you do ??

Solution : Just like any other mobile manufacturer, Nokia has an app store for its multimedia phones. Yes, we are talking about Ovi Store from Nokia. Unfortunately, Nokia does not allow you to download Ovi Store apps to computer. However, as always, there is a trick to download Ovi Store apps to computer, which can be later transferred to your Nokia phone.

Prerequisites:

  • Mozilla Firefox.
  • Windows OS.
  • Nokia account.

Guide to download Nokia Ovi store application to PC:

  • Open Mozilla Firefox and go to Tools >> Add-ons.
  • Click on Get Add-ons tab and search for User Agent Switcher (We have covered this Earlier).
  • Install User Agent Switcher and restart Firefox.
  • Now open Firefox and go to Tools >> Default User Agent >> Edit User Agents.
  • Click on  Add and add the foll. Details :

Description : Nokia 5233

User Agent : Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.4; U; Series60/5.0 Nokia5233/10.0.067; Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413

  • Replace all 5233 in the above code with the model number of your phone ( I tested this on Nokia 5233), like N97 for Nokia N97, or E71 for Nokia E71, and so on.
  • Now go to Tools >> Default User Agent and select your phone’s model number as your Default User Agent.
  • Open http://store.ovi.mobi/.

Now, Firefox will work as the default browser of your phone, and you can download any Ovi Store file on your PC, and then transfer them to your phone via USB cable or Bluetooth.

Bingo! you can now download Ovi Store apps to your PC, and transfer them to your phone.

Note: Once you complete downloading Ovi Store applications, change user agent back to default user agent, by going to Tools >> Default User Agent >> Default User Agent, else Firefox will keep behaving like your mobile phone’s browser.

Do let me know in the comments if you require any help regarding this.

Update 1 : It might happen that you have downloaded a .jad file, read this post to know what to do.

Update 2 : You might also encounter a .sis.dm file, read this post to know what to do.

i have done all the steps and i was able to download ovi apps but when i download some files are downloded as sis.dm extension so it cann’t run on my mobile. so, do you have some other trick for make sis.dm file to sisx..?

    • August 25, 2011 at 9:50 pm

i am going to write a post on it soon but here is what you will need to do :

First of all you will need Notepad++ for this method. Now, simply open the .sis.dm/.dm file with Notepad++. You will notice that first four lines are in readable text format, while the rest of the lines are unreadable, delete these “readable” lines (also the spaces), but not “z” which is present at the start of the 5th line. Now go to the bottom of the page and delete the last line, which will read something like this “–boundary-1—“.
Save this file with .sis extension, send to your phone and go through the installation process.

Hi there, are you able to help out with the installation process and what i need to do on my mobile, my mobile is a nokia c7-00. i fellowed your code up above. all i have on my mobile for model is c7-00. i got the ovi store going threw firefox, but the app that i am trying to download will only send to my mobile option only, can not download to my pc, it send’s the sms to my mobile and yet, i sign in and i just keeps sticking on the download page, have tried everything for about 2 wks now. Was hopeing that this would of worked, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    • September 17, 2011 at 9:14 pm

hey chad, after creating a new user agent in Firefox i.e. after you added the code, did you select your phone’s model number as your Default User Agent ?? cos it looks like you have not and that’s why you are getting the send to mobile option….select the option again and it should work
Tell me if it does not still work out for you or not ….

yes i did that, so you know to, when i first got the phone, worked great, brought a app, and it downloaded aok. from mobile, even then i still hand the only option, send sms to mobile. some apps let you download to comp but some other one’s will only let you sms to mobile. the one i was chasing was the marine app navionics which i paid for. first started workin ok, then the app kept on trying to a update, would do it. deleted app, tried to reinstall, etc etc etc. have done a hard reset, soft reset, reloaded all qt files, reloaded ovi. as far as i can get with the mobile is log in and search, won’t show my stuff, and will not download, then i came across this, even if i can’t get it going, reckon pretty dang neet way of doin it. under neath is the code i put in

    Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.4; U; Series60/5.0 Nokia C7/10.0.067; Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413

got ovi up and going on firefox, i did nokia c7 as the default user agent. signed in to ovi and still no luck just the sms for the link to download, even tried to put the link from the sms in the browser on the comp to see if that would work, still no luck,

i have read a lot of forums in the last couple of weeks. congrats, this is actually the first one to write on. I am seeing that ovi program has a lot of big probs.

hey, thankyou for your time of reading this to, muchly appreciated. if i can offer any more info of the things that i have done. if you have ovi, try to see if you get the only option for the marine app.

    thanks again.

    • September 18, 2011 at 2:24 pm

      the code that you put in might not be right, try using this : Mozilla/5.0 (Symbian/3; Series60/5.2 NokiaC7-00/011.003; Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/525 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 BrowserNG/7.2.6.6 3gpp-gba
I think this should do it…. Reply back if this still does not work.

also, i havn’t used this Notepad++ on your post above, i have not done any of that either.

    • September 18, 2011 at 2:25 pm

Notepad++ is just a editor it does not make any difference…

    September 18, 2011 at 5:38 pm

unfortantly that did not work. only the option to sms to mobile, send the link to my mobile. and still link gets stuck on loading. with ovi store, no download to pc appears, on sms to mobile.

    • September 18, 2011 at 9:18 pm

ok….do one more thing for me, go here : http://my-addr.com/ua using your Nokia C7-00, on that page under Common info look at the value in HTTP USER AGENT header and copy it word to word to the user agent created in firefox and use that….that is the best tip i can give currently….
also what do you mean when you say, link gets stuck on loading ??

    • October 5, 2011 at 11:23 pm

First do this : use the below string as your user agent string : NokiaX2-01/5.0 (07.10) Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/420+
If that does not work, then do this, go here : http://my-addr.com/ua using your Nokia X2-01’s internal browser, on that page under Common info look at the value in HTTP USER AGENT header and copy it word to word to the user agent created in firefox and use that

you dont have to do that firefox thing all you have to do is replace every thing after the ? with
/download example ( http://store.ovi.com/content/232340?clickSource=browse&categoryId=1&contentArea=games&pos=88 )you would change it to
    ( http://store.ovi.com/content/232340/download )

    • February 22, 2012 at 10:25 pm

That is true in certain cases only….for most of the apps, this method does not work….hence the user agent..

    • March 24, 2012 at 2:32 pm

I will suggest that you should download the Nokia OVI installer file from the internet and after that, uninstall Nokia OVI store which is already installed in your mobile phone and after that, install the file which you have downloaded in your mobile phone. I think that it will solve your problem.
